Six Flags "Read to Succeed" Program
This program will begin in February. Students will then be given a time frame to read, or have someone read to them, for a total of 6 hours. Upon completion, students will receive a coupon for admission to a Six Flags Theme Park to use during the summer. Six Flags sponsors this program and is responsible for providing coupons.
Every year the 2 X 2 Reading List Committee selects 20 book titles after receiving suggestions from librarians, teachers, parents, students, and others. These are wonderful books for children from 2 years old to second grade.
The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program is based on a list created from the Texas Library Association. In order to participate, students in grades 3-5 must have read, or have heard read, 5 books from the list of 20 by the end of January. Students who have completed 5 books are allowed to vote on their favorite book at the end of January. The votes are counted and sent to TBA headquarters and the statewide favorite is announced in February or March.
Renaissance Learning's Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a fun, interactive reading program for students of all ages. Ask your child's teacher about individual and grade level reading goals they hope to achieve. We will have an Accelerated Reader celebration for all students who reach their reading goals at the end of the school year.
