Library Pfacts:

  • Over 9,000 volumes
We have over 9,000 volumes of fiction, non-fiction, and reference materials and are constantly adding to our collection.
  • Destiny automation system
Our automation system assists with circulation, cataloging, research, and reports. It is so easy to use that students can circulate their own materials. Our online library catalog is also accessible from home!
  • Technology
Students have access to computers not only in the library, but in the adjacent computer lab, which is connected to the library itself. There is a scanner in the lab, and teachers may check out digital cameras for classroom use. We also have a rolling cart with laptop computers, data projectors with document cameras, and are in the process of converting the entire campus to PCs from Macintosh computers.
  • Video Distribution
We have four channels (12, 13, 16, and 17) that teachers can use for local playout so that more than one class can view a video at the same time. There is also another local channel (14) that is used to broadcast morning announcements and yet another (19) with scrolling announcements that run all day.

Accelerated Reader

Dessau Elementary utilizes the Accelerated Reader program. AR provides teachers with an effective way to monitor students’ reading progress. AR is a fantastic motivational tool for students and teachers. Students read books on their reading level and take computer-based tests over the books that measure their reading comprehension. We have added many new Accelerated Reader tests.

NEW! Accelerated Reader is now online:

Parents may request to have an account set up so that they can check their students' testing and scores at home. Students cannot test from home, but parents can see what their child is testing on and how they are doing. To make this request, email the librarian: karen.cunningham@pflugervilleisd.net
