The mission of the Dessau Elementary Library is to foster a love of literature and reading, collaborate with teachers and staff to provide quality learning opportunities for students, and to promote life-long learning for both pleasure and information.

Come on in... you will find a very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere that is conducive to reading and research! Click here to view a copy of our Pflugerville ISD Library Policy letter.
Library Pfacts:
- Over 11,000 volumes
We have over 11,000 volumes of fiction, non-fiction, and reference materials and are constantly adding to our collection. - Destiny automation system
Our automation system assists with circulation, cataloging, research, and reports. It is so easy to use that students can circulate their own materials. Our online library catalog is also accessible from home! - Technology
Students have access to computers not only in the library, but in the adjacent computer lab, which is connected to the library itself. There is a scanner in the lab, and teachers may check out digital cameras for classroom use. We also have a rolling cart with laptop computers, data projectors with document cameras, and are in the process of converting the entire campus to PCs from Macintosh computers. - Video Distribution
We have four channels (12, 13, 16, and 17) that teachers can use for local playout so that more than one class can view a video at the same time. There is also another local channel (14) that is used to broadcast morning announcements and yet another (19) with scrolling announcements that run all day.

Accelerated Reader
Dessau Elementary utilizes the Accelerated Reader program. AR provides teachers with an effective way to monitor students’ reading progress. AR is a fantastic motivational tool for students and teachers. Students read books on their reading level and take computer-based tests over the books that measure their reading comprehension. We have added many new Accelerated Reader tests.
Accelerated Reader is online:

Parents may request to have an account set up so that they can check their students' testing and scores at home. Students cannot test from home, but parents can see what their child is testing on and how they are doing. To make this request, email the librarian: cindy.drake@pflugervilleisd.net
Bluebonnet Books
The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program is based on a list created from the Texas Library Association. In order to participate, students in grades 3-5 must have read, or have heard read, 5 books from the list of 20 by the end of January. Students who have completed 5 books are allowed to vote on their favorite book at the end of January. The votes are counted and sent to TBA headquarters and the statewide favorite is announced in February..

Volunteer Opportunities
There are several ways that you can volunteer to help in the library, including:
Library Volunteer-Helps in the library, usually on a scheduled basis. Helps with circulation, locating information, processing new materials, reshelving books, etc. All volunteers must complete the Pflugerville ISD Volunteer Background Check before volunteering in the library. It takes about two weeks to be processed.
Book Fair Volunteer-Helps sell books in our book fair. Be sure to complete the Pflugerville ISD Volunteer Background Check.
Allow two weeks for processing.
I always love having volunteers! No appointment necessary. If you show up, I will find something for you to do!
