Hendrickson High School's Science Fiction and Fantasy Club

Sponsor: John M. Busch

Welcome to Hendrickson High School's Science Ficiton and Fantasy Club Web Site. If you are interested in playing games that reflect science fiction and fantasy or holding discussions on these imaginary genres, feel free to drop by D-204 on Thursdays or Fridays at 4:00 throughout this year.

2008 has been amazing so far. Our club now has fifteen students who have been showing up with the promise that more will be joining. Considering how small we were when we started, this is a phenomenal increase.

Students have expressed an interest in anime this year. Since this falls into the genres of science fiction and fantasy, we will be including artwork by the students on this website. Please see the link below to look at a Powerpoint of the student contributions thus far.

Added to this site are links to two power points on the history of science fiction and fantasy literature. I tend to use these in my freshman English class, but someone suggested that I allow students to have access to them. Therefore, feel free to peruse them, and if you notice that a favorite author is missing, let me know so that I can try to include him / her when I get back in the fall. Further, the members of the club will now be able to add their own contributions. I am looking forward to expanding their involvement in maintaining this page.

THANKS TOTHE SCIENCE FICTION AND FANSTASY CLUB MEMBERS FOR WHAT IS TURNING INTO A GREAT YEAR!

Hawk wishes he could have been a student at Hendrickson High School.
(The figure above is named Hawk from the second season of Buck Rogers in the Twenty-Fifth Century; since we are the Hawks, we wanted to include his image on our page.)

Objectives:

  • Students will socialize with others who share an interest in speculative fiction and cinema.
  • Students will add reviews, critiques, fiction, and so on to this site.
  • Students will play various role-playing and strategy games during our meetings.
  • Students will be made aware of the history of this genre and some of the most influential works and writers who helped shape it.

Godzilla   A humorous version of man's landing on the moon Star Wars  Frank Herbert's Dune

Star Trek   fantasy art  Frankenstein's monster

Sadly, the world lost one of the founding fathers of American science fiction on March 19, 2008. Arthur C. Clarke, the author of Rendezvous with Rama and 2001: A Space Odyssey, passed away at the age of 90.
