Book Check Out
Our school uses a flexible library schedule allowing students to come in and check out library books anytime during the school day. They come in on their own, choose books on their own, and check them out on their own. They are allowed to come to the library as often as they need library books.
Students in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades are allowed to check out one book.
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are allowed to check out two books.
Books
We have three main types of books in our library. Our Fiction section consist of “E” books, or “Everybody” books (which are basically picture books), and “FIC” books, which are chapter books. The Nonfiction section is mostly made up of informational books. Our Spanish titles are mixed in with the English titles, but they have a green sticker over their spine label to help the children identify them more easily.
Students are able to check out any type of book they prefer, although the FIC chapter books are generally reserved for students who have the stamina to read longer stories.
Accelerated Reader
Students in 2nd-5th grades are using AR to help strengthen their reading fluency and comprehension. They are checking out AR books from the library on their reading level, are taking quizzes about the library books they read, and are earning AR points while they’re doing it! Each student has a personalized point goal that they are working toward, and an AR folder where they are keeping a log of their AR accomplishments.
Birthday Book Club
The Birthday Book Club is a fun way to donate money to the library and to celebrate your child’s birthday. Look for information sheets to come home at the beginning of the month of your child’s birthday for more details! Summer birthday notes should go home soon.
