VOLUNTEER

Northwest Elementary recognizes that parents and community members are one of our strongest assets as we work together to educate the next generation of leaders.

Click here to see volunteer opportunities

To ensure the safety of our students, we require all volunteers to undergo a background check.  The background check is repeated annually, so all volunteers must reapply each year.

In order to update your background check or to apply to be a volunteer, please follow these guidelines:

  • Go to http://www.applitrack.com/pflugerville/onlineapp/
  • Click on “returning volunteer” or “apply to be a volunteer.”
  • If you are a returning volunteer, you will be asked for the User ID and Password you first created to be a volunteer.  If you do not remember your User ID and Password, you may click on the “forgot password” link or contact Jack Fierro, application specialist, at 594-0028.
  • Please note that the background check can take up to two weeks to be approved.
  • Anyone who volunteers for activities off-campus (band trips, athletic events, field trips) must complete a background check as well.

When you visit Northwest Elementary, be sure to sign in at the front office and get a visitor's pass.  Should you have questions about volunteering at our school please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 594-4400.

SCHOOL START & END TIMES

At Northwest Elementary School classes are from 7:40 AM to 2:40 PM. The doors open at 7:10 AM. Students in PK-1 are supervised in the cafeteria until 7:20. Students in grades 2-5 are supervised in the gym until 7:20. Breakfast and announcements are from 7:20 - 7:40. Students are tardy if they are not in class by 7:40 AM.

ATTENDANCE - IT COUNTS

School attendance is crucial to student learning and success!  Students who attend school regularly tend to make better grades than those who have frequent absences.  Punctuality to school is also important!  Students need to be in the classrooms daily at 7:40 a.m.

Compulsory School Attendance

Regular Attendance is Texas state law. For students with 10 or more unexcused absences within a six month period, the school is required by law to file a complaint in court against the parent or guardian for any child under the age of 17 years.

Excused Absences:

  • Illness with documentation from the attending physician
  • A death in your family
  • For religious observances

Unexcused Absences:

  • Family vacations – Prior notice and approval by the principal will provide that students can make up work. However, according to district policy, a maximum grade of 70 will be given (with timely completion of the work).
  • Missing the bus
  • Oversleeping
  • Student is left in charge of younger siblings for the day

Tardies:  Three tardies within six weeks of any grading period will cause a student to not receive recognition for perfect attendance.

New this year:  Nine Week Grading Periods for all grade levels -- Individual Progress Reports will go home each 3 weeks of the 9 week period.
