Library Helpers Still Needed!
Our library circulates approximately 300 - 400 books every day thanks to all the reading the students are doing! Mrs. Evans needs assistance in shelving these books and helping students find books. The busiest time in the library is from 8:00 - 10:00, but volunteers are welcome anytime! To volunteer, go to www.mysignup.com/northwestlibrary and follow the directions there. All volunteers must consent to a background check before volunteering in any part of the school. Instructions are on the above webpage.
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a program where students can take computerized comprehension quizzes after they have read a book. At Northwest, students take tests to determine their AR reading level and then set goals for each six weeks. When they have reached their goal, they receive an AR (dog) tag to wear and get to decorate a star to go up in the main hallway. At the end of the year, every student who met all but one of the six weeks will receive a silver medal. Students who met their goal every six weeks will receive a gold medal! See the library newsletter to read the list of students who met their goal for the previous six weeks.
Library Policies
The library is open all day during school hours. Students do not have regularly scheduled library classes. Instead, teachers schedule classes with Mrs. Evans as needed to enhance the curriculum. Students K - 5 may go to the library at any time during the day to check out new books. Pre-kindergarten and PPCD/Pegasus students have storytime once a week. Kindergarten and 1st grade students check out one book at a time while 2nd - 5th graders may check out 2 books and one magazine. Late fees are not charged, but students must pay for damaged or lost books. Students may not check out books if they have late items or if money is owed for lost or damaged books.
