Options for Credit Recovery Students who have completed a course and failed to gain credit have various options available to them to recover credit for the course: Repeat Course During Regular School Year – A student may retake the course during the academic year to receive a passing grade. If a student fails the first half of the course but receives credit for the second, the student may be enrolled in only the first half of the class. However, if the student fails both halves or only the second half of the course, the student must be enrolled in BOTH sections of the course. The original failing grade will remain on the transcript and the new grade will also be entered on the student’s transcript. Both grades are averaged into the final grade point average. Contact your grade-level counselor for scheduling purposes. PISD Summer School – Students may regain credit for a course that a student has taken and been denied credit by attending one or both of the summer sessions. Information regarding summer school registration is available in the counselor’s office. Out-of-District Summer School – Pflugerville ISD does recognize credits earned from other Texas school districts’ summer school programs. Students should contact local districts for information. Students may attend classes during the summer for both credit recovery and credit acceleration from accredited high schools at the student’s expense. Credit by Exam – Credit by Exam is exclusive to students who have taken a course in a subject area and failed to receive credit. To be eligible, a student must have received a course grade of at least 51 in order to use credit by examination to make up a failing course grade. Test shall be available through the University of Texas as well as Texas Tech University at the student’s expense. To receive credit, students shall score a grade of 70 or above on the examination. Students may register for Credit By Exam courses through ww.utexas.edu/cee/dec or www.dce.ttu.edu. Correspondence Courses – Students may earn a maximum of two state-required credits through correspondence courses and may be enrolled in only one correspondence course at a time. Students may register for Correspondence Courses through www.utexas.edu/cee/dec or www.dce.ttu.edu. Permission to take correspondence classes must be granted by the grade level counselor. Dual Credit through ACC – Dual credit courses are college-level courses that students may take for both high school graduation credit and college credit. To be eligible, a student must have earned a minimum of 11 credits by the beginning of the Junior year. Registration information will be provided in the spring semester. Campus Credit Recovery – A student must see their grade level counselor to request credit recovery. Counselors will determine eligibility.
