PreKindergarten ProgramÂ
Research shows that providing access to high-quality pre-k programs for students improves their school readiness. Additional research studies have confirmed that quality prekindergarten programs reduce retention rates, dropout rates, and decrease referrals to special education. In Pflugerville ISD, we are committed to providing our prekindergarten students with a print-rich learning environment that stimulates the students’ language and listening skills. Prekindergarten classrooms enhance the growth and development of individual students by providing a plethora of activities that address the learning styles of the children. We promote the use of manipulatives to enrich and reinforce the academic skills that are being taught. Students engage in multi-sensory experiences that are in alignment with the state guidelines for prekindergarten.Â
Our prekindergarten learning opportunities include:
- Listening Comprehension
- Speech Production
- Vocabulary development
- Phonological Awareness
- Letter Knowledge and Word Recognition
- Number and Operations
- Patterns
- Measurement
- Science Concepts
- Fine Arts
- Physical Movement
- Technology Access and Exposure
Learning centers are used in our prekindergarten program to engage and motivate the students to become problem solvers and to encourage communication with peers. The centers are changed throughout the school year to reinforce the concepts and themes presented in the classroom. The use of learning centers also promotes self-responsibility, sharing with others, and following directions.Â

Catch Up On The C.A.T.C.H. Program
CATCH (Coordinated Approach To Child Health) is a TEA approved Coordinated School Health Program designed to promote physical activity, healthy food choices, and prevent tobacco use in elementary school aged children. By teaching children that eating healthy and being physically active every day can be FUN, the CATCH Program has proved that establishing healthy habits in childhood can promote behavior change that carry into adulthood.
The CATCH Program focuses on coordinating four components: the Eat Smart school nutrition program, K-5 and 6-8 Classroom curriculum,a Physical Education program, and a Family program. The Coordination of health messages between these four component areas is critical to positively impact children's knowledge and behavior. For over 10 years CATCH has guided schools, families, and children in the process of being healthy. CATCH, the largest school-based health promotion study in the U.S., has demonstrated that behaviors such as eating foods high in saturated fat and physical inactivity can be changed.
