From the Principals DeskWelcome to the 2009-2010 school year. The faculty and staff are excited about the year and look forward to building a relationship between school and home. Following is some general information that is addressed further in the first day packet. We encourage parents to obtain an access code to the online gradebook. The code remains the same from year to year, even as your child moves from one school in the district to another. Grades taken this year will be based on mastery of student expectations. When students fall short of the mastery level, opportunities will be given to learn the material and show mastery. Grades will be taken on Assessment of Expectations (90%), Practice (10%), and Student Self Evaluation (0%). Further explanation of grading guidelines will be provided from the teacher. It is imperative for students to arrive on campus early enough to be in class before the 8:10 tardy bell. Students are let into the building at 7:50, at which time they either go to the cafeteria for breakfast or go to their first period class where they can get organized for the day. Students arriving after 8:08 often have a difficult time making it to their classroom on time and miss important information from the beginning of the lesson. This year, if your child enters the building after 8:08, they will be given a tardy detention to be served during lunch that day. In cases where there has been an unforeseen occurrence to cause the tardiness, a parent is welcome to enter the building with their child to sign them in and prevent the tardy detention. Enclosed in the first day packet is a reminder of the district dress code. Students out of dress code will be given an opportunity to change into clothes available from the school and/or to call home to have something brought to them. Beginning in late September, PMS will move to an advisory bell schedule on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This time set aside during the day will provide opportunities for remediation, tutorial, and enrichment. More information will be provided in the coming weeks. Please mark your calendar for Open House, Thursday, September 10. Further information will be sent home with your child in the coming weeks. Additionally, be sure to register on the PMS listserv, found by going to the Pflugerville ISD main web page, clicking on the contact tab, mailing lists and selecting the PMS listserv. We look forward to an exciting year. Again, welcome. Mary Kimmins |
