Counselor's Corner
Welcome to the counselor’s corner. My name is Iben Dyke, and I am the new school counselor at River Oaks Elementary School. I am very excited and honored to be part of the River Oaks family, and I am looking forward to meeting all students and their families.
A little bit about me: I am originally from Denmark, and my entire family still lives there. I have lived in the USA for 14 years; 9 years in California and 5 years in Texas. I live with my husband and two children in Northwest Austin. My daughter is starting 3rd grade, and my son is starting Kindergarten. It is an exciting year indeed! On the weekends, you might see us at various soccer fields around Austin with the kids. I was a special education teacher in California for several years, and I am currently finishing up my master’s degree in School Counseling at Texas State University. I am excited to start my school counseling career at River Oaks Elementary School.
My job as a school counselor is to help ALL students acquire the skills necessary for successful academic, career, and social and emotional development. I will accomplish this through a planned, developmental, and comprehensive guidance program. I will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, community, and other school personnel to meet all students’ needs.
I will provide services in four areas:
Guidance Curriculum:
Monthly presentations in each classroom about basic life skills such as goal setting, self-esteem, friendship skills, conflict resolution
Responsive Services:
Responding to more immediate needs of students in order to ensure success. This includes small group counseling as well as individual counseling.
Individual Planning:
Guide students to plan and manage their educational and career plans
System Support:
Consult and coordinate with teachers, parents, community
If anyone has questions or concerns, please stop by my office, call or e-mail me, and I would be happy to help.
