General Information

Hours

The library will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Students may check out and return materials during the daily

“open checkout periods” and during their regularly scheduled

library periods.

Check Out Procedures

Early Childhood, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will be allowed to check out one library book at a time.  These books will remain in the classroom with the students until their teacher gives them permission to take them home.  First graders may check out one library book at a time.  Books will go home with first graders as each individual teacher gives approval. Second graders may check out one library book at a time for the first month or so, then they will begin checking out two books at a time as their teacher gives approval. Third, fourth and fifth graders may check out two books at a time per student. Books are checked out for one-week periods and are due back on assigned library days.

Overdue Book and Fine Policy

Students will receive an “overdue notice” for an overdue book. If the book(s) is not returned by the next library period, the student will receive a “Parent Notice” letter. If the book(s) is not returned by the following library period, a phone call will be made to the parent. All library fines will be five cents per day per book.  No fines will be charged in case of absences. Habitual overdue books may result in library privileges being lost.

Library Programs

Birthday Book Club

The Timmerman Library Birthday Book Club is a great opportunity to honor your children on their birthdays or other special occasions. To become a member, a parent or child can contact the librarian and ask to see the selection of new books. Just purchase the book of your choice from the library, and a special bookplate inscribed with the honoree’s name will be placed in the book. The honoree is the first person allowed to check out the book from the library. In addition, new members are announced during morning announcements and their name is printed in the school newsletter. If your special person’s birthday is during the summer, you won’t miss out. Celebrate again in August or September, or start early in April or May. This is a wonderful way to recognize your child and also contribute to our growing library.

Texas Bluebonnet Award

The Texas Bluebonnet Award reading program was extablished to encourage Texas children to read more boos, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination and to identify favority titles. Each student voter is required to read at least five of the twenty nominated books. Each participating schools sends in their winning nomination and then the book recieving the most votes from all over the state is the Texas Bluebonnet Award winner. Voting at Timmerman will take place the last week in January.

Accelerated Reader (AR)

Accelerated Reader is a reading incentive program used with Kindergarten through 5th grade to motivate students to read and develop independent reading. Students select books and take tests to assess their comprehension of each story.  Each book is assigned a reading level and a point value.  The reading level guides each student to books he/she should be able to successfully read independently.  A student takes a quiz over a book on a classroom computer.  The student and teacher receive immediate feedback indicating the student’s comprehension of the book.  The information helps the teacher and student determine the student’s understanding of the book and adjust future reading levels if necessary.

Parents may request to have an Accelerated Reader account set up so that they can check their students' testing and scores at home.  Students cannot test from home, but parents can see what their child is testing on and how they are doing.  To make this request, email the librarian: kathe.leblanc@pflugervilleisd.net
