The Timmerman Way

At the beginning of the year we always review the procedures, rules and routines of Timmerman Elementary. We call it the Timmerman Way! These are tried, proven, workable, and easy procedures that make Timmerman a safe place for children. When everyone observes these rules of operation, it is smooth sailing here at Timmerman.

1. The end doors of the west wing (Pre-K through 2) are always kept locked. The only time these doors are opened for entrance are for bus riders and early childhood children (PPCD and Pre-K). Everyone else must enter through the front doors. For safety we must control who enters the building. If you are exiting the west doors and let people in as you leave, that means they have not signed in at the office and we do not know who is here with our children. Please do not allow others in as you exit. A simple way to avoid that situation is to exit through the front doors.

2. No one is allowed in the Annex unless accompanied by a teacher or administrator or unless they have signed in at the office and are wearing visitor's badges. Again, for the safety of our children, we must control who enters this building.

3. Parents who are picking up children after school must wait in the front lobby. They may not wait in the hallways, on the ramp or on the stairs. This causes congestion and impedes classes dismissing.

4. The dismissal pattern for Kindergarten is as follows:

 

a. Go out the west end door (parents may wait outside this door to pick up kinders if they wish).

b. Go by buses.

c. Enter front door to drop off kinders to parents who are also waiting for older siblings.

d. Go by gym to drop off YMCA children.

 

5. The dismissal pattern for all other grades is through the front lobby. Parents picking up students in grades 1-5 must pick them up in the lobby. This is for the safety of our students.

6. All bus riders line up at the end of the west wing and are escorted to buses by duty teachers and administrators.

7. The entrance into our front parking lot is a one-way entrance. The exit is a one-way exit. All front parking lot traffic travels one way, east to west. To ignore this endangers everyone, particularly our children.

8. Our parking lot is small and is accessed from a very busy street. Traffic is always very heavy in the morning. Please exercise much caution. Buses are a very safe and timely mode of transportation for children.

9. The fire marshall says absolutely no parking in the fire lanes. He will ticket cars parked unattended in the fire lanes, and the fine is very stiff! I would hate that to happen to any of my Timmerman parents.

10. Kindness and respect are two of the main character qualities constantly taught and modeled at Timmerman. Our motto is, "Treat others as you would wish to be treated; speak to others as you would wish to be spoken to!" And that motto addresses just about everything, doesn't it?!
