Northwest Elementary, Dessau elementary, and Delco Primary schools were each recognized by CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) on behalf of The University of Texas-Houston and the Michael & Susan Dell Center for Advancement of Healthy Living. Each of these schools have been selected to receive a $1500.00 (2008) CATCH Implementation Award of Excellence for their efforts to create healthy learning environments for children of Travis County.

The PISD Health and Physical Education program is designed to provide a positive learning experience for everyone. The health education program will focus on healthful living choices related to fitness behaviors, nutrition, drugs, human sexuality, relationships, and coping with grief and death. The physical education program will focus on physical fitness, skill development in various individual and team sports, and most importantly, active participation.

Students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for wellness. Wellness addresses the social, physical and mental health aspects of lifelong habits.
