Project Publish: Students will use a current literature selection to add headers, footers, and page numbers. Book Review: Students use word processing formatting tools to create a document. Daily Log: Students create a journal for a famous individual (possible connection to Social Studies).
I've Got Proportionality: Students will create a promotional travel poster that deals with proportion and body text effectively.
Favorite Recipe: Students create and edit recipes in order to compile a class recipe file. Give an Award: Students will create an award certificate for a persona who has had a positive impact on society.
What's in a Name?: Students will work in groups to compose a progressive story by using the find/replace command. Editing Checklist: Students create a checklist for editing for future use. Speech: Students will create a speech and present to the class.
Similes: Students will create similes comparing animate and inanimate items. Instead of Said: Students learn to replace overused words with the Find/Replace feature. Poetry: Students will create a poetry anthology with a unifying theme.
Idioms: Students will create a word proecessing document to explain a chosen idiom. I'm Talking: Students use the thesaurus to create a poem with creative adjectives. Illustrated Book Review: Students will create an illustrated book review for a fictitious newspaper.
Synonyms, Antonyms, Homonyms: Students will use tabs to create a chart. Where, Oh Where, is My...: Students use desktop publishing skills to create a lost pet notice. Illustrated Autobiography: Students will use desktop publishing skills.
Culminating Projects: This project ties together all the above lessons and is intended to be used at the end of the school year/semester. Students should be able to incorporate many word processing skills to complete one of a list of projects.
Issue Poster: Students create a poster to advertise an environmental or human health issue. .
