Frequently Asked Questions

NEW TEACHERS

Q: Am I required to attend all the BRIDGE meetings?

A: You are HIGHLY encouraged to attend, but you may be required to attend by your principal. Many of the campuses have mandatory professional development for the first year teachers and use the BRIDGE meetings as part of their program. The meetings always address the needs and concerns of first year teachers and are also a good way to network with new teachers from other campuses who may be experiencing some of the same situations you are now facing.

Q: What do I need to do to take the release day you mentioned at the August meeting for new teachers?

A: First, and most important, you need to check with your principal about this. You and your mentor may want use this day to work together on the TxBESS Activity Profile (TAP), or you may choose to use it to observe other classrooms on the campus or in the district. For example, an art teacher may want to visit the art teacher on another campus.
Next, you need to go to the FORMS section of this website. In "BRIDGE forms," find the Mentor Release form, complete it, and send it to Joy Huebel at the Administration Building.
Last, call the SEMS and press Code 10 to obtain a substitute for that day.

MENTORS

Q: If I mentor an intern from one of the alternative certification programs (ex. ESC 13, ACC, ITEACH.), do I get a stipend from PISD for mentoring?

A: If the ACP is paying a stipend to you, there will be no stipend from PISD. We do not want to burden any of the new teachers with additional requirements which would arise from trying to satisfy two different entities. The program should be compensating you adequately for the mentoring.

Q: What documentation do I need to turn in from my BRIDGE mentoring?

A: For Level One mentoring, we ask that you spend at least 30 minutes per week with your mentee and that you document that correctly on the Mentor Log (form is available on this website). Please turn in the Mentor Log before Spring Break.

For Level Two mentoring, we ask that you complete the TxBESS Activity Profile with your mentee and turn in a copy of the Action Plan resulting from that process. This should also be turned in before Spring Break.
