CAREER CLUSTERS and PATHWAY MODELS

In order to prepare students for the demands of the 21st Century careers, change is taking place in providing students with a broad occupational grouping of specific industry based jobs.  The sixteen Career Clusters are an organizing tool or framework for PISD and colleges to assist students in preparing for life.  The sixteen clusters are also a way to organize instruction and student experiences around broad categories that encompass virtually all occupations from entry to professional levels.

Each Career Cluster is divided into anywhere from two to seven pathways.  Sample occupations are shown for each pathway. The Career Clusters have created knowledge and skills statements for 87 career pathways that fall within the 16 Career Clusters, representing broad sectors of the U.S. workforce. Use the clusters for helping develop core academic skills in the context of personal interest and planning.

The new Texas Education Initiative, Achieve Texas is designed to prepare all students for a lifetime of success.  It allow all students to achieve by preparing them for secondary and postsecondary opportunities, career preparation and advancement, meaningfull work, and active citizenship. In your career and college planning preparation, students can plan their high school program of studies utilizing the suggested programs of study to meet their graduation plans.
