CAREER CLUSTER AREAS AND DESCRIPTIONS

Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources

Agricultural Science is committed to preparing students for careers and life skills through education and training in food, fiber and natural resources.

This program encompasses a wide range of topics that may include:

  • Understanding the impact of agriculture on the environment
  • Practical knowledge about caring for animals, including household pets
  • Production of food, fiber, wood products, horticultural crops, and other plant and animal products
  • Financing, processing, marketing, and distribution of agricultural products
  • Health, nutrition, and food consumption
  • The application of science and biotechnology
  • The use and conservation of land and water resources
  • Development and maintenance of recreational resources
  • Related economic, sociological, political, environmental, and cultural characteristics of the food and fiber system.

Business Management and Administration, Finance, and Information Technology

The business education career involves training for positions of high responsibility in business organizations. Some of these career opportunities involve making decisions and supervising the activities of employees, while other career opportunities provide support services and assistance to executives, administrators and managers. Students benefit by understanding the relationship between a strong, academic foundation and a business career emphasis and also gain work experience utilizing the knowledge and skills developed through the various course offerings.

This program encompasses several areas of skills and knowledge used by all levels of business professionals including:

  • Communication and Management

Arts, Education and Trainig, Human Services, Hospitality and Tourism, and Human Services

Family and Consumer Sciences Education prepares students for personal and family life across the life span as they manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. The program focus is on families, work, and their interrelationships.  Family and Consumer Science Education also provides training for careers in education and social services as well as careers in food sciences.

The Family and Consumer Science program focuses on course work in:

  • Early Childhood Studies
  • Teacher Prep
  • Food Preparation and Nutrition
  • Life Management
  • Housing and Design
  • Personal Finance
  • Apparel & Textiles

Health Science

Health Science Technology courses are designed for students interested in pursuing a career in health care. The health science program provides students with opportunities to explore a variety of health careers to make realistic and satisfying career choices offering a variety of science credit and elective courses. Students benefit by understanding the relationship between a strong, academic foundation with health career emphasis as well as gaining hands-on clinical experience utilizing the knowledge and skills developed during the course of study.

The Health Science Technology program offers students skills and knowledge needed for hands-on clinical applications which are applied in the health industry.  Students enrolled in the upper level courses complete clinical rotations.  Students also have opportunities for advanced training and certifications within specific areas of the health industry.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Manufacturing, and Information Technology and Transportation

Technology Education offers courses designed for students to gain knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the future workforce for many career areas.  Students benefit by understanding the relationship between a strong, academic foundation and hands on learning experiences, both of which are vital in a well rounded quality education.  Program offerings range from course offerings in Physics in Context, Architectural and Engineering Principles, Construction, Electronics, as well basic foundation of skills with an emphasis on the math and science principles.

The Trade and Industrial Education Technology program in Pflugerville ISD has courses offerings in two areas: Auto Technology and Computer Technologies.  Courses in Trade and Industrial Education are specific to careers and employment.  Students have the opportunity to learn “industry specific hands-on” applications. Courses offered include:

  • Auto Tech I, II and III
  • Computer Technology – Computer Maintenance & Repair A+
