Instructional Support Special Education Student Services Intervention Team |
TAKS-Alt is an assessment designed for students with significant cognitive disabilities. Unlike other state-wide assessments in Texas, TAKS-Alt is not a traditional paper-and-pencil or multiple-choice test. Instead, the assessment involves teachers observing students as they complete teacher-designed activities that link to the grade-level Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum. Teachers then score student performance using the TAKS-Alt rubric and submit results and evidence through an online instrument. Participation Requirements for TAKS-Alt THE ASSESSMENT OF BASIC LANGUAGE AND LEARNING SKILLS (ABLLS) The ABLLS is an assessment, curriculum guide, and skills tracking system for children with language delays. The ABLLS contains a task analysis of the many skills necessary to communicate successfully and to learn from everyday experiences. ABBLS is used in essential academic programs and communication programs. Resource ClassroomsSDAA II Information Booklets The State-Developed Alternative Assessment II (SDAA II) is an updated testing program. It assesses more of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) than the State-Developed Alternative Assessment (SDAA) did and asks questions in more authentic ways. SDAA II has been developed to better reflect good instructional practice and more accurately measure student learning. We hope that every teacher will see the connection between what we test on this new state assessment and what our students should know and be able to do to be academically successful. To provide you with a better understanding of SDAA II and its connection to the TEKS and to classroom teaching, the Texas Education Agency has developed three SDAA II information booklets: one for mathematics, one for writing, and one for reading. The purpose of these booklets is to inform educators about the components the TEKS that are eligible for testing on SDAA II. These booklets provide information about the types of test items that may appear on an actual test form. They also contain sample items for each instructional level. It is important for educators to keep in mind that the samples in these booklets are intended to show only some of the types of items that may appear on an actual SDAA II test; the sample items may not represent all types of items eligible for testing. These booklets are not intended to be used as guides for specific test preparation. It is important to remember that the best preparation for SDAA II is a coherent, TEKS-based instructional program that provides the level of support necessary for all students to reach their academic potential. We hope these booklets will serve as a user-friendly resource that will help you make a smooth transition to SDAA II. The three booklets are provided below. Each booklet was broken down into several sections for ease in downloading. • Reading (Instructional Levels K–9) • Mathematics (Instructional Levels K–10) • Writing (Instructional Levels K/1, 2, 3/4, 5, 6/7, 8/9, and English language arts (ELA) level 10) |
