5th Grade G/T Club at Spring Hill Elementary
Sponsor: Donna McVey

20 students attended and listened to Mr. Gonzalez (electronic engineer) speak about how electricity is used in technology. He included a powerpoint slide at the end of his excellent presentation encouraging students to read plenty of math and science and to work hard for good grades. Mr. Gonzales brought several microchips and design boards to show the students and they were allowed to handle all the equipment he brought.

The students asked interesting questions about his job and whether he liked his job. Mr. Gonzalez gave honest answers about how some companies are better to work for than others. He told them how he continues to read and stay on the cutting edge which reinforced "life-long learning."

Afterwards, students had cookies and water, then adjourned to the lab to do a scavenger hunt using Renzulli Learning. They were going at it madly at 4:15 when it was time to quit and several didn't want to stop.

Next month, a science teacher from Park Crest will come and give demonstrations that will lead into more work with Renzulli.
