Programs

Specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability. This includes related services, which are developmental, corrective, and other supportive services as required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education.

The type and amount of services a student receives is outlined in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) by the Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee (ARD). Pflugerville ISD is committed to educating students with special needs in the least restrictive environment appropriate for each student.

•ITINERANT SERVICES for students who need instruction in special areas such as vision and auditory instruction. (All campuses)

•INCLUSION for students needing support to be successful in the general education classroom. Support may include: modifications of instruction or testing; adaptation of materials, equipment or assignments; and collaborative teaching situations. (All campuses)

•SPEECH THERAPY for students with identified speech and language disorders. (All campuses)

•RESOURCE classes for students needing academic courses in a smaller setting with specialized instruction for less than 50% of the school day. (All campuses)

•ESSENTIAL ACADEMICS classes for students who need special education assistance for 50% or more of the school day.

Classes emphasize academic instruction, communication, social / emotional development, recreational, vocational, and independent living skills within a small supportive environment using an alternative curriculum and or modified TEKS.

•PRESCHOOLERS ACQUIRING LANGUAGE SKILLS (PALS)  for eligible children, primarily 3-5 years of age who need intensive language and articulation stimulation.

VOCATIONAL ADJUSTMENT CLASS/PROGRAM for students at the High School needing job-related instruction and regularly scheduled supervision on the job.

•PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES (PPCD) for eligible children, 3-5 years of age. An Early Learning Together model is utilized in which students without disabilities are included in the program. This model promotes inclusive learning settings and benefits all of the children.

•HOSPITAL/HOMEBOUND teacher for students who are to be out of school due to an accident or illness for a specified period of time.

•POSITIVE APPROACH FOR STUDENT SUCCESS (PASS) A flexible, special education program designed to support behavioral and/or emotional disabilities.

•INTENSIVE BEHAVIOR CLASS (IBC) A highly structured special education program designed to support behavioral and/or emotional disabilities

•COMMUNICATION UNITS and INTENSE RESOURCE INCLUSION Specialized programs individualized for children with autism and other developmental delays with a strong emphasis on developing communication skills and social skills in a supportive environment using an alternative curriculum and or TEKS.
