Assessment Services

The purpose of the Full and Individual Evaluation (FIE) is to compile information about the student in order to determine the presence or absence of a disability and to identify an  educational need.  This must be done for each student referred to Special Education services and again every three years for students receiving such services.  The evaluation must include "all areas related to the suspected disability, including, if appropriate:

a) health

b) vision

c) hearing

d) social

e) emotional status

f) general intelligence

h) academic performance

i) communicative status

j) motor abilities

Each specific disability has requirements for the individuals who can complete that specific eligibility report and the legal requirements for evaluation that apply to that disability. The FIE should include competency based or criterion referenced evaluation often completed by the special education or general education teacher.  This criterion referenced evaluation forms the foundation for objective on the Individual Education Plan (IEP).  This testing provides additional information about the students presents levels of performance, which the ARD committee will use in helping develop the IEP.  The report also includes recommended modifications for general education classes and for special education and other settings.
