    Dear Diamondback Family,

We have had another great week here at DMS, and are already excited about next week. Students have been enjoying using their Unit Organizers in class, and I encourage you to ask them about it at home. Our football teams scrimmaged Westview this past week, and did a great job. On Tuesday, Sept. 11, our football teams will play Cele. The 8th grade team will travel to Cele, while our 7th grade team is at home. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m. Our volleyball teams lost a close game to Cele this week, and put forth a great effort. On Thursday our volleyball team will play Kelly Lane. The 8th grade team will travel to KLMS, while our 7th grade team will be at home. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 14, we will have a Pep Rally beginning at 2:30 p.m.

    Other Upcoming Dates:

    • Friday, Sept. 21 – Picture Day
    • Friday, Sept. 28 – Sixth Grade Dance
    • Monday, Oct. 1 – Pfestival of the Bands
    • Wednesday, Oct. 3 – PSAT

Also on Oct. 3, DMS will host a flu shot clinic. Forms were sent home and need to be returned by Thursday, Sept. 13. Attached is a document with more information regarding the shot clinic.

We are asking any parent that is interested in joining our PTO, to come by the office and fill out a form. This is a great way to be involved supporting our students and our campus.

I hope you have a great weekend.

    Dear Diamondback Family,

I hope this Wednesday finds you well.

We have had a fantastic start to our year, here at Dessau Middle School. Recently we received our campus accountability rating  and Dessau Middle School Met Standard. Also, we maintained a 100 percent Pass Rate for the Algebra I EOC. We are working to build upon the momentum created, for our 2018-19 school year.

We hosted Diamondback Camp for the first three days of school this year, and we received lots of positive feedback from our students. They loved the team building opportunities that were presented to them by our staff. We are in our second full day of students transitioning to their classes, and we are extremely proud of the PRO behaviors the students are modeling in the classrooms and hallways.

As a reminder, Dessau Middle School will host an open house tomorrow evening beginning with a welcome at 6:20 p.m. in the gym. Parents will be able to transition to all of their student’s classes and meet all of their teachers.

I have attached a copy of our Open House schedule for your convenience. We will also have tables set up for some of our clubs and organizations. There will also be a table for you to sign up for our PTO, and join our teachers, as we create the best opportunities for our students. A+FCU will also have a table set up with membership benefits, and will briefly speak during our time in the Gym.

We will have spirit shirts, sold by our parent organization, available to be purchased for $10 each. Shirt sales will take place before and after the Open House. Attached is a link to preview the shirts.

As we begin a new school year, we also begin our fall sports season. I have attached schedules for both our football and Volleyball teams. Please support our students, as they play district competition.

Some other exciting news with Dessau Middle School is that we won a $10,000 grant from the Pflugerville Education Foundation to fund our new Outdoor Learning Space. This space will include a large greenhouse, seating area, and materials for students to build planter boxes and grow their own plants. This new space will be utilized by students in all grade levels.

I hope you have a great evening.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy LeJeune

    Good Afternoon Diamondback Family,

I wanted to share with you how excited our staff is with the return of our students tomorrow. We have been working hard this summer, getting ready for an exciting school year. The staff at Dessau Middle School have been in professional development the last four days, learning new and exciting strategies, that your students will benefit from in the coming year. Our teachers can’t wait to deliver engaging and student-centered instruction this coming school year.

Tomorrow morning, our doors will open at 7:55 a.m. Students will enter the Juilliard Hallway upon arrival. Our bus riders will enter the Juilliard Hallway from the front of the building, while our parent drop off students will enter the Juilliard Hall form the back of the building. All students will go through our small gym to receive their schedule, before being guided to the cafeteria for breakfast. After breakfast, students will go to their designated hallway.  Our first bell rings at 8:15 a.m. for the students to go to class. Parents will have the opportunity to walk their child to the gym, and say goodbye as students enter the gym.

During the first three days of school, all of our students will be participating in our Diamondback Camp. During the camp, students will learn what being a PRO looks like and how they can be Prepared, Respectful, and Orderly every day at Dessau Middle School. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in team building exercises with their classes. We are excited about bringing this opportunity to our students.

On Tuesday afternoon, we had several students attend our first Dessau Leadership Academy. It was wonderful to see our students here and willing to assume a leadership role within our campus. We will have additional meetings throughout the year, as we look at the skillsets of an effective leader. If your child is interested in joining, please ask them to see one of our Administrators at Dessau Middle School.

Looking ahead to some upcoming dates, our Open House will be on Thursday, Aug. 23, at 6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, and hear their expectations.

We looking forward to seeing all of our students tomorrow, and the exciting possibilities this year will bring.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy LeJeune

Our doors will open at 7:55a.m. each morning, and every student is eligible to receive a free and nutritious breakfast.  Our school day has changed a little this year, with classes  beginning at 8:20a.m. each day, and ending at 3:35p.m. We begin each day with Advisory, as a way to build relationships and set the tone with our students. Please ensure students are her every day at 8:20a.m.

As we begin the school year, we appreciate your patience with our transportation, as busses begin to work out their routes. Times may be delayed at the start of the school year, but will be more consistent. Thank you for your patience as we begin a new year.

Upon student arrival on Aug. 16, students will be guided to our gym to receive their schedule. After schedule pick up, students will  have the opportunity to eat breakfast prior to class, before going to their designated hallways. • Welcome

Posted by Marcial Guajardo on 8/8/2018 7:00:00 AM

    Dear Diamondback Family,

I hope you have enjoyed your summer and you are as excited as we are about the upcoming school year. We have some great things going on at Dessau Middle School, and it begins with our 6th Grade Camp on Aug. 9 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. We will be introducing staff, having tours of the campus, and many team-building activities for your students during the Camp.

Also during this time, we will meet with the parents, and help you sign up for our communication, sign up for free and reduced lunch, as well as help you verify your student’s registration. Parents will need to bring a copy of their mortgage statements or rental lease agreement, as well as either a copy of their electric, water or gas bills. Please also remember to bring a copy of your identification, so that we may process everything for you.

Also on Aug. 9, from 4:30-7 p.m., we will have our 7th and 8th Grade Course Verification Pickup. During this time students may come up and get their course verification sheets. If your child will be going into the 7th grade this year, you will also need to bring a copy of their updated immunization records.

On Aug. 14, a select group of students will be participating in the Dessau Leadership Academy. This Academy will be from 2-4 p.m., and focus on character and leadership-building that our students will then turn around to our campus.

Dessau Middle School is a National AVID Demonstration School, and the only middle school in Pflugerville to hold this distinction. With our AVID system we focus on organizational skills, and challenge our students to take Pre-AP classes. With students taking Pre-AP Math in both 6th and 7th grade, it prepares them to take Algebra I in the 8th Grade. Dessau Middle School is very proud to have a 100 percent passing rate for our Algebra I EOC over the last couple of years. During this time we have also increased our number of students taking Algebra I.

We are also very proud to have recently been chosen to be a Raise Up Texas school. This is a SIM model that will allow our students to engage in deeper conversations with our curriculum as well as provide the support our students need to be successful. With this, students will be given a Unit Organizer for every class, allowing our students to take a sense of ownership with their learning. I encourage you to have conversations at home with what they learned at school and to ask to see their Unit Organizers.

Our first day of school will be on Thursday, Aug. 16. Doors to the school will open at 7:55 a.m., and we provide free breakfast for all of our students. On our first day, students will report to the gym to receive their schedules, before being guided to breakfast, then to their grade level hallways. During the first three days of school, all of our students will be participating in our Diamondback Camp. During our camp, we talk about expectations, as well as demonstrate appropriate behaviors for school. Students will learn about being a PRO, and how they can be Prepared, Respectful, and Orderly to help lead our campus.

I also wanted you to be aware of some other upcoming dates:

    • Aug. 23 – Open House 6:30 p.m.
    • Sept. 14 – Pep Rally 2:30 p.m.
    • Sept. 21 – Picture Day
    • Sept. 28 – Sixth Grade Dance

We are looking forward to an incredible year, with many opportunities for our students!

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy LeJeune
