    Rocket Families,

It’s time again for the Holiday Shop at Rowe Lane. Our PTO creates this opportunity for our students each year, and as a parent, I admit I look forward to seeing what treasures my kids select for me on a very modest budget. This activity probably is at least equal part service to our school as it is a fundraiser, and it takes a LOT of energy to help our youngest shoppers pick out gifts while managing their money. We really could use some more parent volunteers this week. Yes, you will sweat, but you’ll also likely be smiling the entire time, and in some great company. Please take a look at the sign-up genius to see if you could help out.

A special shout out to one of our business partners, Zaxby’s, who not only provided dinner to the Rowe Lane staff at a generously discounted price, but also sent a check for over $550 from last week’s Spirit Night! Thank you to everyone who came out despite the rain and helped make the evening a success.

We have a number of activities over the next 8 ½ days. One way or the other, I hope to see each of you at some point at Rowe Lane before the break.

    Holiday Shop THIS Week

Our 2017 holiday shop is here!  Please mark your calendar for December 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th from 7:15am to 3:00 pm.  We will also be open on December 14th from 6pm to 8pm. The kids love this event and it is great to see them in the giving spirit.  There are many shifts available and we need your help!  Sign up to volunteer at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0f4daea628a5f85-student1.

A+ Credit Union in the Foyer THIS Wednesday

Our friends at A+ Credit Union will be on site Wednesday morning during arrival to collect deposits from students who take advantage of the early savers program. Stop by and make a deposit or learn more about the free resources A+ provides our students to learn financial literacy and how to manage money responsibly.

5th Grade Music Performance THIS Thursday

Join us at 6:30pm for the 5th grade music performance. We are so proud to showcase the talents of our students properly with the phenomenal upgrades to our stage, and this will be the debut! Thank you to the PfISD Fine Arts Department, donor participants in Donors Choose, and our PTO for supporting the renovations. You will see and hear the difference!

    Amazon Smile

So far nearly $600 has been directed back to our school from your use of Amazon Smile. Simply designate Rowe Lane as your beneficiary, and each time you make an Amazon purchase, Amazon will make a donation to our school at no cost to you. It’s that simple, and easy to set up. Visit https://smile.amazon.com/

    Remind

Several of you may already receive messages, reminders, and updates through Remind. Rowe Lane now has a Remind account that will text you reminders and updates of the most important school-wide events and happenings such as emergencies, Spirit Nights, School Pictures, and approaching deadlines. The frequency of messages ordinarily would be no more than 5 to 10 per month. To sign-up, simply follow the instructions at this link: https://www.remind.com/join/rlescommun

    Front Office Notices

We could use assistance with an important issue. Our attendance rate has declined and it is causing two problems:  First, some of our students are in class less often and missing out on instruction.  Secondly, our district (PfISD, not Rowe Lane) is funded largely based on our daily attendance.  When students are absent, the district’s funding decreases and fewer dollars are available for educational programs.

The way you can help is this:  Please make sure your child is in school as frequently as possible.  Additionally, it truly helps if students’ dentist/doctor appointments are scheduled later in the day.  PfISD’s official attendance is taken each day between 9:00 a.m. and 10:a.m.  Scheduling appointments later in the day and vacations or family trips during district holidays would make a significantly positive impact for Pflugerville.

    Rocket Families,

Thank you for the generosity that was shown this past week closing out our Coats For Kids drive and kicking off our Painless Fundraiser. We collected over 260 coats which will be distributed to children in need just in time for the chilly weather. Congratulations to our 2nd graders who won the grade level competition for most coats collected and the privilege of extra recess for the kids and jeans all week for the teachers.

A special shout out to Casey Holland for setting up our Giving Tuesday campaign on Facebook and monitoring it throughout the day. We brought in over $1,250 in a few short hours! Come out to the PTO meeting this Tuesday to help us determine how we will support our students and benefit our school.

    Rocket Families,

Welcome back! This week’s message focuses on the spirit of giving in several forms. First, the Coats for Kids Drive technically runs through this Wednesday, November 29, and we will accept new or gently used coats up until then. You may contribute to the effort by dropping off your items in our foyer, by going by a Jack Brown Cleaners, or by making a monetary donation online.

Second, we are about to launch our annual Painless Fundraiser for the school year. Rather than participating in traditional fundraisers to help our school provide an exceptional experience for our Rowe Lane Rockets, we organize a donation drive to ensure 100% of money donated reaches the school. This year our hope is to leverage your generosity with the charity of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who is matching donations to non-profit organizations. Watch https://www.facebook.com/rlespto/ for updates on this opportunity, or, sign up for our new Remind notifications, and remember your contributions are tax deductible as well.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again this week. Read on for more details.

Check it out during Arrival this week!

    Rocket Families,

First up is a shout out to the Hospitality Committee  and Texas Roadhouse for the delicious baked potato lunch we enjoyed last Friday! We are so thankful for the TLC, and the committee has let me know they have a sweet treat planned for teachers this Friday. Check out the “Call for Pies” notice below if you can help.

We have passed the 100 coats mark in our Coats for Kids drive and would love to get every available coat in this week. So often perfectly good coats or jackets sit in a closet or storage forgotten and unused, sometimes season after season, and CFK can use those items to meet a serious need for children of all ages and sizes in Central Texas. Please check in with your friends, neighbors, and relatives to see if they can help with the cause. Donation bins are in the front foyer all this week, and monetary donations can be made here. Please also remind your child to check the lost and found one last time this week. Items not claimed by this Friday will be donated.

Wishing all a safe and restful Thanksgiving break next week. Read on for details on what’s ahead.

    Ben

    Chipotle Spirit Night THIS Monday

Our local Chipotle is sponsoring our Spirit Night tomorrow, Monday, November 13, from 5-9pm. Check out this link for details, which includes 50% of any purchases being donated to Rowe Lane! Just tell the cashier you are there for Rowe Lane Spirit Night, and enjoy some delicious Chipotle knowing your dinner just benefited our school!

Green Apple Deposit Day THIS Wednesday

Our partners at A+ Credit Union will be in the front foyer this Wednesday, November 15 to receive deposits from any students enrolled or interested in beginning an early savers account. A+ has provided financial literacy lessons to our students each year and has great free resources available to students and adults. Say hello on your way in this Wednesday!

    EDP Safety Change

In the interest of greater safety EDP staff only will admit into the building EDP parents or Pegasus parents with a Pegasus Pass. Adults who arrive to pick students up from tutoring, for teacher conferences, or any other activity will need to enter through the main office. Entry to the building after 3:45pm will require a prior arrangement for admittance at the main entrance and escort by an RLES staff member.

    Call for Pies!

PTO has generously organized an effort to send each Rowe Lane staff member into the Thanksgiving holiday with a pie – but we need donations beginning this Wednesday. Following is a sign-up genius asking for donations for Thanksgiving Pies: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c4aaaa628a5fb6-thanksgiving

The list below indicates we have plenty going on at Rowe Lane this week, including competitions, celebrations, ceremonies, and service. Looking forward to seeing many of you at one or several of these events, so please read on for the details of the weeks ahead.

    Rocket Families,

The chilly weather Friday brought to mind the fact that our annual Coats for Kids drive is about to kick off. Last year, we managed to earn the honor of top donor among all elementary schools. Every coat collected helped to keep a child warm through last winter, and we intend to do our part again this year. Please feel free to drop off your new or gently used coats and jackets in the front foyer bins beginning this Wednesday.

November also means the Book Fair is here! Rowe Lane Rockets are readers, and you can fuel their passion while also benefiting our school library. I encourage everyone to embrace the love of reading as a family on Thursday, November 9, from 5-8pm. We will have Teacher wish lists on display in an effort to help our teachers maintain a classroom library complete with the most popular selections. Our desire as a campus is to grow our collection of multi-cultural literature.

Read on for more details of the weeks ahead,

Be sure to mention Rowe Lane!

    Help With Veterans Day Performance

Mr. Bennett has coordinated with Hendrickson High School to add something special to this year’s Veteran’s Day recognition. See the following link for details: https://tinyurl.com/RLESVetDayCommLetter2017

    Coats for Kids

The collection begins Wednesday, November 1, so please bring any gently used coats and jackets to our collection bin in the front foyer. Also, we periodically donate unclaimed items from the lost and found to a charitable organization. After November 17, any unclaimed coats and jackets in new or nearly new condition will be donated to Coats for Kids. We always make efforts through announcements and P.E. to reunite lost articles with owners, but please take a moment to label your child’s outerwear as the colder weather approaches.

    Rocket Families,

With less than a week left, we need some volunteers in key areas for Pfall Pfreak Out. The PTO team literally cannot run Pfall Pfreak Out safely without volunteers. We need your help!

Each grade level is hereby challenged to fill the following high-need shifts:

    Pre-K/Kinder/3rd

Inflatables 1-4 (these absolutely cannot run without one adult per inflatable every hour)

    Fortune Teller Monitor

    Volunteer Check-in

    1st/4th

    Photo Booth Monitor

    Auction Monitors

    Planetarium Monitors

    2nd/5th

    Balloon Artist Monitor

    First Aid Station

    Floaters

We can do it! In addition to being an important responsibility, these shifts are fun opportunities to interact with the kids and socialize with friends and neighbors. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Again, you may use this link to help us out:

    Rocket Families,

This coming Saturday, here at Rowe Lane from 2-6pm, our school will be transformed into a festival for Pfall Pfreak Out! Thank you for the contributions and recruiting to put together some incredible auction baskets again this year. If you have any final contributions, please get those in ASAP so that we can prepare the displays for the event. We hope everyone can stop by for at least a portion of the evening. I for one am looking forward to the indoor planetarium!

Shout Outs this week go to Lindsay Villa, Candace Pruitt, Stacie Aho, and the Kinder Parents who provided us with a Chili Lunch this past Friday. Delish, and just in time for the cooler fall weather!

Read on for details of the weeks ahead,

    Ben

    Multicultural Literature

This year, Rowe Lane is making a focused effort to find new ways of recognizing the rich, multicultural heritage that makes up our community. An important part of this is maintaining diverse literature in our classroom libraries. Two of our 3rd grade teachers have Donors Choose campaigns at this moment to acquires some new titles. Please follow the links if you are able to support Mrs. Olson or Mrs. Goode. Teachers also will have some wish list items at next month’s book fair.

Math Pentathlon Games Night, Oct. 26

Rowe Lane has a math pentathlon team that meets Wednesday mornings, and attached is a flyer inviting all interested families to learn more about how to play the math pentathlon games used in practice and competition. The event takes place at Pflugerville Elementary School from 6:30 – 8:30pm on Thursday, October 26.

On Thursday, November 9, we will recognize our service men and women, and we could use your assistance with completing RSVPs for our honored guests as well as an optional video project. Coats for Kids

Last year, we were the largest contributing elementary school to the Coats for Kids drive. We once again will make this our goal in order to provide children and families in need with warm coats before winter. The collection will begin in November, but I wanted to give ample notice to hold on to any gently used coats and jackets so that we can put them toward this cause in a few weeks.

    Rocket Families,

Collectively, Rowe Lane provided over 1,000 books to support Pflugerville Middle School’s Destination Imagination team in putting literature back into the hands of students severely impacted by Hurricane Harvey. This weekend I was privileged to help with the delivery and spoke with one of the 5th grade teachers at Bear Creek Elementary in Katy ISD. He shared that around three-hundred of their students still are displaced from homes. I am sure the DI team encountered similar stories in Rockport and Hull-Daisetta as they distributed around 6,500 books in total throughout the weekend. Clearly there is plenty of rebuilding yet to be done for our neighbors, and it is heartening to know PfISD students and our community are taking up the cause.

A reminder that tomorrow is a holiday for our students while teachers engage with the work of setting and tracking year-long goals for each and every student at Rowe Lane. Our aim is to ensure we challenge and support every child to learn and grow as much as possible over the next eight months.

Read on for details of what’s happening in the near future,

    Ben
