    MONDAY 09/17 Picture Day

    Progress Reports sent home Thursday

    DISMISSAL: ENFORCING CARDS DAILY

If you do NOT have your card, you will be asked to park or walk to the front office and present ID.

Thank you for honoring our campus safety initiative and bringing your parent pick-up dismissal cards daily.  We are happy to provide you with as many cards as you need.  If you forget your card, you will be asked to present your id in the main office.  If your child’s teacher is present and knows you, they can release your child to you without a card one time as a courtesy, but we request that you bring your card subsequent times.  You can give a set of cards to others that regularly pick up  your children, or use in two different vehicles so you won’t have to remember the cards daily.

ASCEND will be dismissed @ 2:35 daily.

All other classes will be dismissed at 2:50.

We will be stationed at dismissal with students until 3:00.  Any student that has not been picked up by 3:00 will be brought inside until parents arrived and sign out the student.

We are enforcing that all parents that walk up either stand near the stop sign on the corner of the sidewalk or near the picnic tables and wait for their students.

    EARLY PICK UP FOR APPOINTMENTS:

If your child has an after school appointment, we ask that you pick them up no later than 2:20, as to not interrupt the dismissal process and to ensure student safety.  When the teacher’s attention is pulled away from their class and dismissal procedures to send one student to the office at the end of the day, mistakes can be made, and student safety can be compromised.  Please note, 4th grade classes are in special areas at the end of the day, and it make take longer to retrieve your child as they may be outside in PE.  If you arrive past 2:20, you will be asked to wait until dismissal to retrieve your child for student safety.

    RECAP:

Zaxby’s Spirit Night was a HUGE success!  Thank you to Zaxby’s for supporting Windermere PTO.  Thank you to all that were able to come out.  We secured over $350 to go back to the students and teachers!!

PTO Bingo Night was a blast!  Thank you to the PTO for putting together an amazing time for students and parents.  We will have another Bingo night in the Spring.

The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. Join the WPS and WES Principals for coffee, a breakfast treat and some information about the Title I status of the campuses, STAAR results, and opportunities to be involved in the CAAC, PTO, and other decision and campus support committees.

GRANDPARENT’S LUNCH FRIDAY, September 7th during your child’s lunch time:

Join us as we celebrate the amazing relationship that Grandparent’s play in the growth, development, health and happiness of our students!  Grandparents may bring lunch, or purchase a meal from the cafeteria.

WEDNESDAYS AT WES WE ARE COLLEGE & CAREER BOUND:

Each Wednesday students and staff are encouraged to wear a t-shirt that represents their favorite college, university, or higher education of choice.  Our staff work hard to support all students’ participation by reaching out to local universities and scouring thrift shops for t-shirts.  If you can donate, or find a t-shirt for your student, we can all support this initiative to dream BIG!

    DISMISSAL:

We will be stationed at dismissal with students until 3:05.  Any student that has not been picked up by 3:05 will be brought inside until parents arrived and sign out the student.

We are enforcing that all parents that walk up either stand near the stop sign on the corner of the sidewalk or near the picnic tables and wait for their students.

    EARLY PICK UP FOR APPOINTMENTS:

If your child has an after school appointment, we ask that you pick them up no later than 2:15, as to not interrupt the dismissal process and to ensure student safety. If you arrive past 2:15, you will be asked to wait until dismissal to retrieve your child for student safety.

    RECAP:

    OPEN HOUSE

Thank you to those that were able to make it to Open House last Tuesday evening.  We had a GREAT turnout, and the students were excited to show off what they have learned thus far!  If you weren’t able to make it, and would still like to meet with your child’s teacher, they are available during their planning period daily.  We ask that you call ahead to ensure they are available, as there are other meetings and obligations they take care of during planning.

    CAMPUS DRILLS

Part of the back to school routines are practicing for any and all emergency events.  We have conducted a required evacuation (fire), lockdown drill, and shelter in place (tornado drill) to date.  We will continue to conduct the required drills throughout the year, and I will keep you updated so you can have dialogue with your students about these events.

    WELCOME BACK!

It has been a GREAT first full week with the students and staff!  The students didn’t skip a beat with the routines, and the new 3rdgraders are doing an amazing job!  I have been handing out SOAR tickets when I catch students meeting expectations, and we are excited to start learning!

YOUR CHILDREN ARE ATTENDING A TOP RATED SCHOOL!

We are so excited to announce that Windermere Elementary earned 4 DISTINCTIONS  from the Texas Education Agency based on our STAAR results this school year!  We will continue to share more information at the Principal’s coffee, future emails, and Open House Night regarding the meaning of these distinctions.  The students and teachers worked very hard to accomplish this difficult task and we are so proud!

TOMORROW, FRIDAY AUGUST 24th Million Father March

Please join us tomorrow for the Million Father March in the Bus loop from 7:35-8:15.  You are welcome to come and stay for a bit if you can’t make the entire event.  This is a nationally recognized event where fathers and the men of the community come together to give high fives and encouragement to the WPS/WES students.  If you are not a man, you are also welcome, as all support is necessary for student success, and some parents play the role of both mom and dad in their kid’s lives.  It truly takes a village!

    OPEN HOUSE @ WPS/WES TUESDAY, August 28th  5-6:30

Please join us for Open House and learn about the routines, procedures, and get to know your children’s teacher(s).  Both WPS/WES will be hosting open house on this same date and time.  This is a come and go event, however, there will be three presentation times in each classroom; 5:00, 5:30 & 6:00 so the teachers will only have to communicate the information 3 times vs 22 times to the individual parents.  If you can’t make it to one of the scheduled times, please still come, and we will give you the cliff notes version of the information.  Hopefully these times will also support your ability to make it to multiple classrooms or two campuses if you have more than once child.  We hope to see you at WPS/WES!

    CAMPUS DRILLS

Part of the back to school routines are practicing for any and all emergency events.  We have conducted both a required evacuation (fire) drill as well as a lockdown drill to date.  We did conduct two lockdown drills today, as we needed to correct the way we released the students from the drill.  The students and staff take these drills seriously, and did a fantastic job.  The district Safety Specialist, PFISD Chief of Police, Lieutenant and Sergeant all assisted us in today’s drill to ensure our practices are keeping students safe.  They are a wonderful asset and support for our schools.  We will continue to conduct the required drills throughout the year, and I will keep you updated so you can have dialogue with your students about these events.

This is our FINAL WEEKLY email this school year!  What an AMAZING YEAR!  We are so excited to be present with you next week during awards assemblies to honor the students’ accomplishments.

It was such a treat to watch your children perform their talents at school today!  I reflected on how we spend so much time with your children, because you entrust us with them daily.  We do our best to teach them to be confident, courteous, responsible, academically sound, and good people.  They exuded confidence, and the students received their talent, and celebrated everyone; even when the nerves kicked in. J
