    Hello Parents,

Each day parents and staff have the same goal: ensure the children arrive to school and leave school in an efficient and SAFE manner. With an increase in parents parking and walking-up, more parent custody/protective orders, and substitute teachers on campus, we are implementing a couple of changes to enhance student safety at WPS regarding WPS’ Drop-off and Pick-up procedures.

We have made the dismissal cards specific by teacher/grade, and are asking that anyone picking up a student, whether in a car or in person carry a dismissal card daily.  This will allow us to quickly scan the surroundings and help teachers, staff and subs know who can be released to whom.  You are in control of who can access your child using the dismissal cards.  We understand the cards are not a foolproof system, but it is a step in a safer direction.

Our desire is to simplify your life, while supporting the safe dismissal of all 400+ students. Windermere Elementary School will follow these same procedures. We are asking that parent walk ups wait near the flag pole in the concrete area. Pre-K parents will gather near the playground fence gate. Teachers will be able to easily maneuver to their dismissal location (PK inside building and K-2 in grade level lines outside in the shade) while granting authorized adults their children.  We are excited to potentially cut down on the traffic flow of the car line and grant you efficient and safe access to your students.

Since this is a new system implemented after the first day, we will be allowing a grace period.   Your child’s teacher will be handing out cards to authorized parents/guardians over the next two weeks.  If you forget a card, no problem, the teacher or office can provide you with an extra or two.  Also, please feel free to take an extra card for a grandparent, or spouse’s vehicle, so that you won’t have to conduct a card exchange or inconvenience someone by having them come to the office to show id.

In two weeks after Labor Day, September 4th, if someone comes to pick up a student without a dismissal card, they will be asked to come to the office to show id to access a child.  If they are in a car, they will need to park and come in with an id.  Even if the teacher knows you, we will need to consistently implement the system of bringing your dismissal card daily to ensure student safety.  If it is a onetime mistake, grace will be extended, however, all parents/guardians will need to daily present a dismissal card.  This will also ensure any time a sub is present we are prepared with a safety measure for dismissal.  Your consistent implementation will support our efforts.

    WPS DROP- OFF Procedures

    ·         Parents may drop off students along the curb side in front of the building.

    ·         Drop-Off in and driving through the bus loop is NOT ALLOWED until buses exit the loop, normally around 7:20.

    ·         All students who are dropped off or walk to school must enter through the building’s front doors and ALWAYS use the crosswalks.

    ·         The Parking Lot is not a drop off location. Students must be escorted by a parent or adult.

    ·         Please pull your car up as far as you can to accommodate as many vehicles as possible.

    ·         Cell phone use is strictly prohibited by law when operating a vehicle in a school zone.

    ·         Handicap Parking spaces are reserved at all times for parents and guests who have properly displayed permits.

    ·         The Crossing Guards are a great resource for you to ensure safe entrance when moving from the parking lot and school.

    WPS PICK-UP Procedures

    ·         K-2nd grade parents may wait for their child near the flag pole. PK parents may wait near the playground fence gate.

    ·         Cars in the car rider loop may not leave car at any time; students will be brought to the car and enter through the safe side door.  If you need to get out and help your child with seatbelts, please park in parking lot. Students may NOT be picked-up in the bus loop at any time.

    ·         K-2nd grade teachers will bring out the grade level students together in a row. Students will sit in a line in the shaded area and wait for parents to approach the teacher with the grade level card.

    ·         On September 4th, parents without the child specific card will be asked to go inside the building and show their ID and receive a note showing they are the approved person to be picking up the child.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and restful weekend!  See you all on Monday!

The Best is YET to Come!

    First Day Celebrations

We hope your 1st day has been a GREAT one; ours has been amazing! Today, our 412 students played, learned, and practiced our STARS expectations for the hallway, cafeteria, and bathrooms. You can help us by asking your child to show their kite tail and bubble in the mouth.

Breakfast Times: 7:05-7:30      Students who arrive at 7:30 will be given a sack lunch to take to class and eat. Tomorrow is the last day parents may walk their  to the classroom without signing into the office and receiving a badge. On Monday, parents will be stopped at the gym entrance to drop off their children.

Tardy Bell: 7:35       Please make every effort to have your child here on time.  Instruction begins at 7:35 am.  We need all our learners here to maximize their learning opportunity.

End of School: 2:50 PM    Students not picked up by 3:00 pm will need the person picking them up to come to the office and sign them out.

Please mark your calendar for August 28th for our Open House. Classroom teachers will hold three  30 minute sessions: 5:00-5:30 pm, 5:30 – 6:00 pm, 6:00 – 6:30 pm. Please pick one time to attend. Teachers will be sharing specific information related to your child’s learning.

The teachers, support staff and administration thank you for entrusting your child (children) into our care. This year will be full of lots of learning and fun events. See you all tomorrow morning. Doors open up at 7:05
