• Adopt A Child - Spreading Holiday Cheer

Posted by Heike Cook on 12/11/2018

Classes to Celebrate Adopt a Child day

Adopt-a-Child, an annual tradition here at PHS, will take place during 2nd period class this Friday, December 14th

On this special day, the entire school celebrates the holiday season by "adopting" children from area elementary schools.  Students in their 2nd period classes decorate their rooms and raise funds that go towards the purchase of small –or large- gifts.  These gifts are wrapped and presented to their "adopted" little ones.  Once the gifts are opened, the class enjoys a meal provided by the 2nd period students.

The event is a special holiday celebration for the adopted students and highschool students alike. It has been our experience that while the elementary students leave with arms full of gifts and smiles on their faces, it's the PHS staff and student body that reflect back on this day with hearts and minds full of the holiday spirit of giving and camaraderie.

While we appreciate the contributions that made our celebration possible, in an effort to maintain confidentialy of the "adopted child", this event is limited to the participation of school officials, adoptees and PHS students/personnel.

  • Fire Evacuation Update 912/4/2018)

Posted by Heike Cook on 12/4/2018

The following message was sent to parents/guardians via messenger:

    12/4/2018 1:31pm

    PHS Parents,

We wanted to make you aware of a situation on campus this afternoon. Campus administrators were alerted to the smell of smoke on the second floor. As a precaution, all students were evacuated while the fire department responded. After a brief period of time, students were cleared to re-enter the building. Two hallways remain inaccessible as the fire department continues its investigation, and classes on those hallways will be temporarily relocated until the fire department concludes its investigation. If you have any questions, please contact me at 512-594-0500.

    Thank you.

    Ameka Hunt, Principal

    Pflugerville High School

    Update:  2:05 pm

All classrooms have been cleared and students have returned to their normal schedule.  The odor causing the evacuation was determined to have come from an HVAC unit that malfunctioned.  Students and staff were evacuated for precautionary reasons only.  There was no evidence of an a active fire situation.  Thank you to staff and students for the manner in which they conducted themselves during this event.

  • PHS A Cappella group, Pforte, is making waves in the music community!

Posted by Heike Cook on 12/4/2018

Pflugerville High School “Pforte” and Connally High School “Headliners” were 2 of 5 high school vocal groups to be chosen to perform an “Aca-Bomb” at the most prestigious contemporary a cappella event in the state of Texas—“Sing! Texas”. The vocal festival ran Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17 in Rockwall, Texas. This year’s “Sing! Texas” was hosted by Deke Sharon, the producer of “The Sing Off” on T.V. and the “Pitch Perfect” movie series. Deke is considered to be the number one person to bring contemporary a cappella to the forefront of popular music today, promoting such groups as “Pentatonix” and “Home Free”.

The “Sing! Texas” festival brings the best of high school and collegiate a cappella groups, directors, arrangers, clinicians, and professionals from across the state and the country to sponsor performances and workshops for students including vocal percussion, choreography, solo delivery, balance and vocal blend, and many other topics.

After their performance, the PHS “Pforte” group was selected to record and be interviewed by Aaden Director of AcaVille Radio. Their performance and interview will air internationally on the program “#The Spotlight” in the upcoming weeks (the program runs at 3:00pm Wednesdays and 1:00pm Saturdays).

PHS Senior Jada Gillespie was chosen for a one-on-one vocal coaching session with Deke Sharon. PHS Senior Chance Atkinson was selected by Deke to be the vocal percussionist for his “Festival Chorus” during the final concert of the festival.

The “Pforte” performers will soon transform to “The Yuletide Singers”, a more than 30 year tradition at PHS, where the singers dress in Dicken’s era garb and perform songs of the season for various community events. Aside from private parties, “The Yuletide Singers” will be performing: after the lighting of the Pflugerville Tree, on the entertainment stage, at 6:15pm Saturday, December 1; as invited guests at the Texas State Capitol Wednesday, December 5 at noon; and at the Zilker Trail of Lights at 7:00pm on Tuesday, December 11.

Congratulations to these talented singers on your recognition from “Sing! Texas” and continued good luck in your upcoming performances!

  • PHS Band Hosted UIL Area 4A Marhing Band Contest

Posted by Heike Cook on 10/31/2018

This past Saturday, October 27th, The Panther Band hosted 27 – Class 4A Bands for UIL Area Marching Contest held at The Pfield.  It was the first event of this magnitude to be held at The Pfield, welcoming over 2700 students and well over 3000 spectators.  The Panther Band staffed the event serving as guides, monitors and concessions sales reps throughout the day and making every student, parent and director from the visiting schools feel welcomed and at ease.  UIL contest directors were extremely impressed with The Pfield and the PHS Band Student and Parent Volunteers hospitality that they are already looking for PHS to host the 5A contest in 2019.  Way to go Panther Band!
