Connally publications win national journalism awards

Connally High School's newspaper and yearbook staffs were recently honored with two national awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in New York City. The yearbook, Governor, won a Silver Crown while the school's paper, The Connection, won a Gold Crown. Both awards are for last year's publications.

"It's really amazing to have both publications win Crown awards," journalism adviser Kelly Lemons said. "The students worked so hard to make both publications beautiful and now that hard work has finally paid off."

Only 35 high school papers and 31 yearbooks from across the nation were named finalists for the award. This is the third year in a row the newspaper has won a Crown award. This is the first time in school history the paper has won Gold. The yearbook previously won a Silver Crown in 2005. Connally was one of only four high schools in the nation that won a Crown award in both newspaper and yearbook.
