Volunteer Spotlight: Ian Foley Honored by Pflugerville Librarians

Community member lends time to help keep libraries running smoothly

Ian Foley was recently honored by a group of librarians for his volunteer efforts in Pflugerville schools. Foley gives his time at not one, but four school libraries each week, where he helps students find the books they are looking for, and lends a hand to librarians by shelving books. Foley began offering his services in Pflugerville schools many years ago when his granddaughter Sarah, who is now in high school, was an elementary school student.

Librarians at the schools where Foley volunteers, Mary Lynn Galloway (Pflugerville High School), MaryG Zell (Pflugerville Middle School), Diane Barton (Windermere Elementary School) and Susie Thorn (Caldwell Elementary School), and Pflugerville superintendent Charles Dupre presented Foley with a plaque recognizing his commitment to Pflugerville schools.

“By volunteering, Mr. Foley gives librarians more time to work with students,” Zell said. “He takes care of many time-consuming tasks that take us away from the kids, and just having him around is fun for the students and the librarians. He is such a kind and generous man.”
