8th Grade Transitions

This is an exciting time for the 8th graders as they prepare to say goodbye to KLMS and enter HHS.  Here are a few, specific 8th grade events.

High School Course Selections

Jan. 8: Parent meeting for parents wanting guidance with high school course selection, pathways, graduation plans, and preparing for high school.  Click Here for presentation.

Jan. 16: HHS Course Fair.  This is an opportunity to see the school, meet teachers, and learn more about HHS.  In the past, there has been a general information session in the HHS cafeteria fro parents and the entire course fair in from 6:00-8:00pm.  Click here for the flyer.

Jan. 29-31: Students will complete their BRIDGES plan through their US History class with Ms. Sauceda.

Feb. 13-15: Parent Conferences.  Each student, and their parents, will have a 15 minute conference (likely during the student's science class on one of those days) to review and finalize the course selection.  Please know that your meeting will be with a HHS or KLMS counselor and not necessarily your student's counselor this year or next.  You should receive a post card in the mail with your assigned time and instructions specific to the meeting.  There were some meetings that we scheduled outside of the science class, so please look for your official time.

April 16th - Panoramic Picture @ 8:30am

We traditionally have two photos- one is a traditional panoramic picture and the other is the students standing in the shape of "19" to represent their 8th grade year.  Pictures are sold the following day for $25.

Saturday, April 13th- 8th Grade Semi-Formal, Theme: Vegas

For this occasion, the regular school day dress code does not apply.  However, please be aware that students must be in good academic and behavior standing to purchase and/or attend the dance.

GIRLS: They may wear strapless dresses or dresses with spaghetti straps.  The only restriction is that the midrif cannot show; 2-piece dresses are acceptable if the bottom of  the top touches the top of the bottom (no midriff showing).  Dresses should be long enough to provide adequate coverage while dancing.  We have had students wear anything from a sun dress to a formal gown.  We do recommend they wear something comfortable.

BOYS: We have had boys in tuxedos and boys in jeans; it is really what they are most comfortable wearing for the evening.

Dinner will be served, exact times and menu will be annouced at a later date.  The dance ends at 9:00 pm.

Admission price is $15 and includes dinner from Johnny Carino's, desert, drinks, and dancing. Tickets will be sold February 28th - March 13th in the mornings, 8:00-8:15am, outside the 8th grade office suite. Cash and checks will be accepted.

May - 8th Grade Trip May 28 to Typhoon Texas.

This is a unique opportunity for our students, the cost is $30 which is a great deal! Only students who purchase tickets through the school will be allowed to attend the event, the park is closed to the public and only KLMS and a few other schools will be in attendance.  We hope the students will take advantage of this great opportunity.  Once tickets are purchased, they cannot be refunded as we will have to pay for buses and tickets regardless of attendance.

Students must be in good academic and behavior standing to purchase and/or attend the trip.  PLEASE NOTE: Students can become ineligible after permission slips and money have been turned in; refunds are not possible because the funds collected will be used for pay for the bus and tickets (nonrefundable costs).

What can keep a student from going: 1)More than 1 ISS assignment  April 15th - May 24th 2) Suspension or OC Placement April 15th - May 24th 3) Excessive tardies/absences/referrals Feb. 1st - May 24th 4) Outstanding library fines  5) UIL eligibility (passing all classes for 3rd nine weeks; can gain eligibilit by passing all classes by April 25th IPR or May 17th IPR)  and  6) Administrator discretion.

$30 includes admission to Typhoon Texas, lunch, and unlimited drinks.

Students will be able to purchase their admission ticket April 25th - May 8th.
