The Pflugerville High Engineering and Robotics Team (PHEAR) has advanced to the Texas Boosting Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics Championship.
The Texas BEST regional national tournament takes place Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco.
Texas BEST, held in conjunction with the UIL State Robotics Championship, brings together champion teams from area hubs in Texas and New Mexico.
Team PHEAR advanced to Texas BEST after competing at the Capitol BEST Austin-area event Oct. 20 in Liberty Hill. The team captured first place in marketing, received the Founders Award for design and execution of the engineering process of their robot, placed second in the field competition, and finished second overall at Capitol BEST.
BEST Robotics organizes annual robotics competitions that introduce middle- and high-school students to engineering, problem-solving and teamwork.
Team PHEAR is led by coach Chris Riola. Members are Lilly Barrera, Sunny Che, Jake Gollub, Nikolas Hamilton, Lambert Ike, Jenny Le, Nam-Thi Pham and Chris Shaw.
